{"id":21499,"date":"2016-08-13T15:27:27","date_gmt":"2016-08-13T19:27:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=21499"},"modified":"2016-08-13T15:27:27","modified_gmt":"2016-08-13T19:27:27","slug":"the-boat-ride","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2016\/08\/the-boat-ride\/","title":{"rendered":"The Boat Ride"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A light breeze cools the hazy summer sky.<\/p>\n<p>Green, choppy waters dance a lively two-step with the small fishing boat<\/p>\n<p>As she heads out into the lake.<\/p>\n<p>A new rod and reel to count how many feet of fishing line are let out<\/p>\n<p>When trolling for walleyes.<\/p>\n<p>Trolling takes patience and a brightly colored lure<\/p>\n<p>No fish yet.<\/p>\n<p>Why isn&#8217;t there a bobber?<\/p>\n<p>We aren&#8217;t bobber fishing.<\/p>\n<p>How about jigging?<\/p>\n<p>No. The lure does the work.<\/p>\n<p>Another pass. Another.<\/p>\n<p>I look at the houses of rich people,<\/p>\n<p>Thinking it&#8217;s funny they have to wash all those windows<\/p>\n<p>So they have a clear view of me<\/p>\n<p>Waiting to catch fish.<\/p>\n<p>Big boats slam the waves,<\/p>\n<p>Smacking them and pushing them towards us.<\/p>\n<p>A couple of snags and a small rock bass.<\/p>\n<p>Oh, and an old lure caught in the weeds.<\/p>\n<p>Heading for shore.<\/p>\n<p>No fish today.<\/p>\n<p>Only a boat ride.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A light breeze cools the hazy summer sky.
