How selfish?<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps he is better off dead.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Walk home in the dark,<\/p>\n<p>Moonlight flickers,<\/p>\n<p>Torchlight flickers,<\/p>\n<p>Strange shapes hang from trees \u2013<\/p>\n<p>Giant fish strung up to bleed.<\/p>\n<p>No, humans. No, something like.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Three bodies swing in darkness.<\/p>\n<p>Blood pools beneath in black stains.<\/p>\n<p>Giant wings drape from their backs like grace<\/p>\n<p>Incarnate.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>One of these creatures, these men, is still alive.<\/p>\n<p>Cut him down, catch his heavy body falling.<\/p>\n<p>Help, but help hurts.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A night of care<\/p>\n<p>A gift of thanks: a necklace like a rose<\/p>\n<p>Delivered by his mysterious companions,<\/p>\n<p>A promise of help in dire times \u2013<\/p>\n<p>Just call.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Chapter 7: Rescue &nbsp; No sailors stumble off battered boats To fall into lovers\u2019 arms \u2013 not today.
