TRAVELIN’<\/p>\n
With pencil and paper in hand<\/p>\n
I jot down the name,<\/p>\n
I jot down the brand.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
For other folks<\/p>\n
the brand don’t matter<\/p>\n
but\u00a0I write it down<\/p>\n
it saves on the chatter.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I travel from town to town<\/p>\n
aching with pain,<\/p>\n
but I like what I do.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Of course\u00a0I’d prefer<\/p>\n
for a doc to see<\/p>\n
I\u00a0let my\u00a0wounds to heal<\/p>\n
no docs are \u00a0around<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I don’t trust em barbers<\/p>\n
and I never will<\/p>\n
I’ve seen what they’ve done<\/p>\n
to a cadaver or two.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I’m feared by\u00a0particular men, you see.<\/p>\n
Dirty stink’n rotten men, the kind you want to bury.<\/p>\n
The kind that steal your horses and cattle<\/p>\n
and know, if caught, they’ll be\u00a0heightened for death.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Perhaps it’s the platform,<\/p>\n
they desire to speak<\/p>\n
most\u00a0hold their tongue<\/p>\n
many of ’em freak..<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
They whine and squeal just like little pigs.<\/p>\n
Two more miles to go and I’ll be there by sun-up.<\/p>\n
Reckon they’ll be waitin’, for this travelin’ man.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I’m the one with the rope,<\/p>\n
I’m the one with the plan.<\/p>\n
They stretch if I leave em<\/p>\n
don’t want no complaints.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
So they’re down in a day.<\/p>\n
The crowd that amasses<\/p>\n
boggles my mind<\/p>\n
They line up a few men for the day.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
For I may not return<\/p>\n
for months on end.<\/p>\n
I’m the hangman<\/p>\n
I\u00a0move from town to town.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
My horses are tired<\/p>\n
they have a right to complain.<\/p>\n
I’ll set down me britches<\/p>\n
one of these days.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
For now I’ll keep movin’ and hanging away.<\/p>\n
