My head rests against his breastbone<\/p>\n
The canopy closing us in a cocoon of our own<\/p>\n
Away from all forms of scrutiny<\/p>\n
As I lean in to kiss him<\/p>\n
My heart is like a lake brimming over in the monsoons<\/p>\n
Filled not with water<\/p>\n
But a positively caffeinated hormonal cocktail<\/p>\n
I know I am not dreaming<\/p>\n
As I smell his cologne<\/p>\n
Perfumed diesel, after effects of a jeep breakdown and a spare tire change<\/p>\n
A stormy calm<\/p>\n
Before a calm, bubbling storm<\/p>\n
I lean back<\/p>\n
I look into his face<\/p>\n
Pleasant, no doubt<\/p>\n
But not what I want, not now<\/p>\n
The canopy obscures us from outside scrutiny<\/p>\n
But it also obscures the outside world and its treasures from us<\/p>\n
And I am impatient and inquisitive to see the rest of it<\/p>\n
The torrential monsoon becomes a faint New England drizzle<\/p>\n
The lake has had its fill<\/p>\n
I am ready to move on<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Cinema dream sequences usually get the details right<\/p>\n
It’s the ends they get wrong<\/p>\n
Because in our world, there is more than one type of ideal end<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
“I had a great time.” “Me too.” “We should do this again sometime.”<\/p>\n
We get up together, and embrace one last time<\/p>\n
Walking back home in opposite directions<\/p>\n
