{"id":24660,"date":"2016-08-13T20:40:20","date_gmt":"2016-08-14T00:40:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=24660"},"modified":"2016-08-13T20:40:20","modified_gmt":"2016-08-14T00:40:20","slug":"poem-12-moon-lake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2016\/08\/poem-12-moon-lake\/","title":{"rendered":"Poem 12: Moon Lake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\">Moon lake,<br \/>\nWider than memories,<br \/>\nI cross you in dreams.<\/p>\n<p>Lazy waves carve<br \/>\nmoon beams into scalloped blades<br \/>\nthat cleave meat from bone<br \/>\nand stitch words into stories.<\/p>\n<p>Over the lake,<br \/>\nAnd far above the moon,<br \/>\nA nighttime sky, silent and black,<br \/>\nArcs in a gentle canopy.<\/p>\n<p>I swam these waters, once,<br \/>\nDove into their still depths<br \/>\nUntil the black water tattooed my arms,<br \/>\nInk on living paper.<\/p>\n<p>Squat, dark trees line the shore.<br \/>\nSilver sunlight burnishes limbs,<br \/>\nBare and spare.<br \/>\nBeneath my breastbone, lungs squeeze.<\/p>\n<p>No stars lighten\u00a0the sky.<br \/>\nNo clouds soften the moon.<br \/>\nNo giant fish preys below.<br \/>\nI am alone.
