She stands at the front door
\nSpiral-bound notebook and pen in hand
\nTongue between her teeth
\nShe taps the end of the pen on her page.<\/p>\n
Friend opens the door from inside, and exclaims!
\n“Why didn’t you ring the bell?! Come in!”<\/p>\n
“Shh! You’re ruining the mood!”
\nThe girl on the step, the poet, says.<\/p>\n
“What do you mean?
\nWhat could make you stand out on a porch
\nSo near to dark
\nIn a neighbourhood so bad?
\nYou’re mad!”<\/p>\n
“Yes! Yes, I know it!”
\nExclaimed the poet
\n“This closed door’s my inspiration
\n– danged Muse is on vacation –
\nBut of course I know I’m mad!
\nMad artists and mad scientists,
\nIt’s just another word for genius!
\nLeave sanity for the average folk
\nI’d rather be out of my mind, and know
\nThe secrets of the universe
