BROKEN<\/p>\n
I wanted\u00a0to figure, out<\/p>\n
why\u00a0I hated to cook,<\/p>\n
so I went back a few years<\/p>\n
and took a look.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I was young, barely four, but<\/p>\n
an independent streak, had I.<\/p>\n
I reveled in a house of<\/p>\n
love,\u00a0music, and song.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
No foul words,<\/p>\n
from my parent’s lips<\/p>\n
did ever pass. Only<\/p>\n
love, hugs, and kisses,<\/p>\n
ya\u00a0\u00a0know.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
In my happy home,\u00a0my<\/p>\n
favorite toy was a stove.<\/p>\n
I was told to play with<\/p>\n
either Mom or Dad.<\/p>\n
Why, I didn’t know.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Well, being who I am<\/p>\n
and always was;<\/p>\n
I plugged in my stove<\/p>\n
while they slept.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I wanted to make<\/p>\n
a surprise breakfast<\/p>\n
with milk.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
So I filled the pot<\/p>\n
and felt so secure<\/p>\n
as I boiled the\u00a0milk<\/p>\n
for cocoa.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I stirred and I stirred as<\/p>\n
the smoke swirled around<\/p>\n
then Daddy came in, in a rush.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I gushed, Daddy I’m cooking,<\/p>\n
it is a surprise, is Mommy up yet?<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
My Father, with a crazed<\/p>\n
look in his eyes,\u00a0pulled the plug,<\/p>\n
and yelled for my Mom.<\/p>\n
Mother arrived, with\u00a0a<\/p>\n
that same look on her face.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Dad left for a moment and<\/p>\n
when he returned<\/p>\n
he cut the plug on my stove.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I looked at them<\/p>\n
with a broken heart<\/p>\n
and said, “Now it won’t work!<\/p>\n
I’ll never cook again!”<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I abandoned the toy,<\/p>\n
that\u00a0had no plug.<\/p>\n
And to this day, I won’t<\/p>\n
cook or play with a stove!<\/p>\n
