Urban jungle, yes literally, not metaphorically,<\/p>\n

though maybe more like a ghetto forest.<\/p>\n

Leading the determined coalition, is one sleek fox,<\/p>\n

low lying, white tipped tail, like a log on legs.<\/p>\n

Following fellow fox is great black bear, also<\/p>\n

in forceful forward motion, head level, purpose<\/p>\n

in his gait and onward gaze, alongside the girl.<\/p>\n

She, decked in tartan plaid skirt, red cap<\/p>\n

and sweater, strides along friend bear<\/p>\n

among the graffiti’d concrete landscape<\/p>\n

peppered with spare thin trees, once patterned<\/p>\n

for park pleasure seekers and outdoor fun.<\/p>\n

In ruins now, no one in the neighborhood<\/p>\n

respects the land, so the conservationists<\/p>\n

have taken up extreme measures for the cause:<\/p>\n

the children and the animals, who will inherit<\/p>\n

the earth when the mature of the human species<\/p>\n

go extinct, march forth to the city council meeting<\/p>\n

to state their piece: “Who will speak for the trees<\/p>\n
