{"id":27955,"date":"2016-08-14T06:34:34","date_gmt":"2016-08-14T10:34:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=27955"},"modified":"2016-09-12T04:34:42","modified_gmt":"2016-09-12T08:34:42","slug":"at-the-diner-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2016\/08\/at-the-diner-2\/","title":{"rendered":"At the Diner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Denny&#8217;s, America&#8217;s Diner<\/p>\n<p>Kristen and I go there for privacy<\/p>\n<p>To discuss the drama in the house<\/p>\n<p>To plot the revolution<\/p>\n<p>To find a way to take back our home<\/p>\n<p>From the Lodgers we had invited in.<\/p>\n<p>I always order, except when I don&#8217;t<\/p>\n<p>The Everyday Slam (which sounds like a punk dance)<\/p>\n<p>Whole wheat pancakes<\/p>\n<p>Sugarless Syrup<\/p>\n<p>Sausage,not bacon<\/p>\n<p>Bacon isn&#8217;t really food I say,<\/p>\n<p>to Kristen&#8217;s annoyance.<\/p>\n<p>She likes the taste of bacon<\/p>\n<p>but won&#8217;t let me get it for her.<\/p>\n<p>Scrambled eggs with steak sauce instead of Ketchup.<\/p>\n<p>Just to class things up.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years we have seen the economy change<\/p>\n<p>The servers are newer hires who don&#8217;t last as long as the veterans,<\/p>\n<p>Who moved on after their hours were cut.<\/p>\n<p>To avoid giving them bennies.<\/p>\n<p>Now the dramatic couple \u00a0and their sweet teenager are gone,<\/p>\n<p>Replaced by an quiet, amiable fellow<\/p>\n<p>The house is quiet.<\/p>\n<p>We eat at home more.<\/p>\n<p>Especially since my blood sugar edged up.<\/p>\n<p>I no longer eat pancakes.<\/p>\n<p>Denny&#8217;s, America&#8217;s Diner.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Somehow we caught on<\/p>\n<p>The food wasn&#8217;t that great,<\/p>\n<p>nor the service<\/p>\n<p>nor the atmosphere,<\/p>\n<p>It was the company we kept all along.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Denny&#8217;s, America&#8217;s Diner Kristen and I go there for privacy To discuss the drama in the house To plot the revolution To find a way to take back our home From the Lodgers we had invited in.
