I had a secret hiding place<\/p>\n
when I grew up<\/p>\n
in the back yard<\/p>\n
beneath a flowering tree.<\/p>\n
I do not know what flowers they were<\/p>\n
I would sit beneath it<\/p>\n
on the ground or sometimes<\/p>\n
on a cement block that lay there.<\/p>\n
I can’t recall why it was there<\/p>\n
sometimes I would pull out a pebble<\/p>\n
from the ground<\/p>\n
I ascribed magic to it<\/p>\n
when I was a child.<\/p>\n
sometimes I would talk to myself,<\/p>\n
I never let anyone know I was there<\/p>\n
even if I heard my mother call.<\/p>\n
I never acknowledged her,<\/p>\n
no one ever discovered me,<\/p>\n
the only secret I kept to myself.<\/p>\n
still I believe I live a secret<\/p>\n
in a place I want no one to enter,<\/p>\n
holding words in my hand<\/p>\n
