{"id":29377,"date":"2016-08-15T18:00:32","date_gmt":"2016-08-15T22:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=29377"},"modified":"2016-08-15T18:00:32","modified_gmt":"2016-08-15T22:00:32","slug":"acrophobia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2016\/08\/acrophobia\/","title":{"rendered":"Acrophobia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>(Just realized this one never uploaded)<\/p>\n<p>When FDR declared the nation had only fear to fear,<br \/>\nHe never had a gun to his head,<br \/>\n<em>Ballistaphobia<\/em><br \/>\nnever had a cobra hood opened at his bare legs<br \/>\n<em>Ophidiaphobia<\/em><br \/>\nor strolled past the body of a jumper from a Manhattan 32 story high rise,<br \/>\n<em>Necrophobia<\/em><br \/>\nthe thump of the fall nearly lifting my feet off the ground.<\/p>\n<p>But it wasn&#8217;t then that acrophobia hit.<br \/>\nNo, it was the carefree days of carnivals and Ferris wheels,<br \/>\nFree from regulations and safety straps, not even for seats<br \/>\nThat turned upside down with the slow-turning wheel.<br \/>\nI was five and my car mates were nine and ten, measurably<br \/>\nLarger, taller than I so that the metal bar kept them in as<br \/>\nThe wheel spun us upside down and then right side up,<br \/>\nMe clutching with all my strength to keep myself inside.<\/p>\n<p>Thanatophobia.
