{"id":31714,"date":"2017-08-05T09:31:08","date_gmt":"2017-08-05T13:31:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=31714"},"modified":"2017-08-05T09:31:08","modified_gmt":"2017-08-05T13:31:08","slug":"poem-1-fire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/poem-1-fire\/","title":{"rendered":"Poem 1: Fire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What\u2019s in a fire?:<br \/>\nAll sizzle and roar<br \/>\nand destruction.<br \/>\nWe inhale it, taste it, mouths agape,<br \/>\nwatch its cleansing destruction<br \/>\nwith eyes painted in shades of violence,<br \/>\nprimed by action movies<br \/>\nin which explosions shout our loudest<br \/>\nwords of wisdom.<\/p>\n<p>A crackle that crunches<br \/>\nlike tin foil wrath,<br \/>\nnothing like the softest sigh of rain on stone<br \/>\nor the shush of shoots<br \/>\ngasping from tender<br \/>\nsoil beds.<\/p>\n<p>Heat bites parched lips,<br \/>\nbakes the softness of water<br \/>\nfrom bones and skin,<br \/>\nsears gentle words on swollen,<br \/>\nclicking tongues.<\/p>\n<p>Wind sighs in our lungs.<br \/>\nEmpowered, emboldened,<br \/>\nwe exhale,<br \/>\nbreathing fire like some<br \/>\nancient, angry, resentful dragon<br \/>\nthat forgot the sweet shyness<br \/>\nof humanity.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/media2.giphy.com\/media\/oZYBdbW7TnhEQ\/200w.webp#1-grid1\" width=\"200\" height=\"214\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What\u2019s in a fire?: All sizzle and roar and destruction.
