I dig in my own dirt<\/p>\n<p>of my own yard, and lift a metal padlock,<\/p>\n<p>or unearth a round rock<\/p>\n<p>paving stone<\/p>\n<p>or gray orb, egg unbroken by<\/p>\n<p>water and air and fire of the sky<\/p>\n<p>which beat onto the rocks and me,<\/p>\n<p>the dirt of the new beds,<\/p>\n<p>my seedlings,<\/p>\n<p>the dog in the yard,<\/p>\n<p>and the used porch furniture<\/p>\n<p>rescued from the neighbors\u2019 curbs.<\/p>\n<p>All the green and plastic life they wet, and breathe, and heat<\/p>\n<p>measure out in my shovels of dirt.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Gardener &nbsp; Unprepared and precious, I lift them out with two hands.
