{"id":32399,"date":"2017-08-05T10:32:09","date_gmt":"2017-08-05T14:32:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=32399"},"modified":"2017-08-05T10:32:09","modified_gmt":"2017-08-05T14:32:09","slug":"i-let-you-slip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/i-let-you-slip\/","title":{"rendered":"I let you slip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>I let you slip<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I tried,<\/p>\n<p>with everything I am made of,<\/p>\n<p>and not made of,<\/p>\n<p>to keep you buried in me deeper than every secret I\u2019ve ever kept in darkness<\/p>\n<p>by fire and blood and wine.<\/p>\n<p>I tried.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>But I let you slip.<\/p>\n<p>I let you slip to the pages of my note book where I pen you on the daily \u2013<\/p>\n<p>the reams and reams of poems in your delicious memory\u2026<\/p>\n<p>by candle light on your perfect body \u2013<\/p>\n<p>some written there, too.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I let you slip to leaf and flower and fruit<\/p>\n<p>on the paths I walked to try any shake you free from the places in me I could not hold you<\/p>\n<p>for arms too weak to carry all my heart has for you.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I let you slip from my lips,<\/p>\n<p>whisper your name into my hands<\/p>\n<p>into those moments of heat and longing when I should be most silent,<\/p>\n<p>or moaning,<\/p>\n<p>so my blood could cool for a second or two \u2013<\/p>\n<p>free from the lightning storm you have released in me.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I let you slip<\/p>\n<p>everyday<\/p>\n<p>I let you slip through me in the way my eyes reflect how I love you,<\/p>\n<p>even from such a distance as this<\/p>\n<p>how I love you<\/p>\n<p>I let you slip through me<\/p>\n<p>hoping no one else will catch you<\/p>\n<p>slipping<\/p>\n<p>through me.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u00a9 R.
