{"id":32646,"date":"2017-08-05T11:07:22","date_gmt":"2017-08-05T15:07:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=32646"},"modified":"2017-08-05T21:08:02","modified_gmt":"2017-08-06T01:08:02","slug":"bane-of-men","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/bane-of-men\/","title":{"rendered":"Bane of Men"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">I can stare down the most ferocious of beasts.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ripping splinters from my hand is as painful as swatting away a fly.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Why is it then that when a woman glances in my direction,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">My knees become so weak?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Is it out of love?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A natural desire for that which I cannot have?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Or perhaps, it is the emotion that all men hide.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fear. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fear of rejection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fear of heartache.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fear of how quickly her laugh can turn from blissful to sadistic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Such is the bane of man, such is the suffering of the soul.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Curse this confliction! The old adage is true.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Can&#8217;t live with them, can&#8217;t live without them.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I can stare down the most ferocious of beasts.
