I’d remind you that I started out fresh<\/p>\n
shelter to youth<\/p>\n
the boy still shiny<\/p>\n
working fences<\/p>\n
above the tree line<\/p>\n
He stayed too long<\/p>\n
thought he could keep the wind from his heart<\/p>\n
but it tore right through<\/p>\n
Funny thing is<\/p>\n
those down on the flat<\/p>\n
forgot about him<\/p>\n
No one saw him fall<\/p>\n
He didn’t so much die<\/p>\n
as evaporate<\/p>\n
care was not taken<\/p>\n
and the calendar stopped watching<\/p>\n
moonlight rattled the windows clean out<\/p>\n
Wind pawed the walls<\/p>\n
done peeled my tar<\/p>\n
my skin ‘most gone<\/p>\n
those UV rays<\/p>\n
and time<\/p>\n
have a way of<\/p>\n
having their way with ya<\/p>\n
and wood stays wood<\/p>\n
for only so long<\/p>\n
and the wind takes us all<\/p>\n
in the end<\/p>\n
