{"id":32939,"date":"2017-08-05T11:35:40","date_gmt":"2017-08-05T15:35:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=32939"},"modified":"2017-08-05T11:35:40","modified_gmt":"2017-08-05T15:35:40","slug":"hour-three-image","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/hour-three-image\/","title":{"rendered":"Hour Three, Image"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Kinship<\/p>\n<p>I left the trail temporarily,<br \/>\nmy backpack straps tugging<br \/>\nmy shoulders down and back<br \/>\nuntil I found this place, off<br \/>\nthe beaten path and becoming<br \/>\na part of the soil that once<br \/>\nsupported its structure.<\/p>\n<p>I laid my burden down<br \/>\non a rock and wandered<br \/>\nthe ruin, noting a rusted<br \/>\nrefrigerator, gaping, a rotten<br \/>\nopening in a gap-toothed grin.<\/p>\n<p>Clapboard siding was piled<br \/>\nand ready, the house skinned<br \/>\nand awaiting a cleansing fire<br \/>\nthat never came, snow now piled<br \/>\nover the whole.<\/p>\n<p>A single sock, a child&#8217;s doll, smashed<br \/>\nBall glass jars, the half<br \/>\nburied detritus of lives<br \/>\ninterrupted, transported elsewhere<br \/>\nin a clenched heartbeat.<\/p>\n<p>I sat on a rock nearby, still,<br \/>\nbut for the wind sliding<br \/>\nover the minute hairs on my skin,<br \/>\nakin with the emptied rooms<br \/>\nin front of me, now<br \/>\nopen to the sky.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kinship I left the trail temporarily, my backpack straps tugging my shoulders down and back until I found this place, off the beaten path and becoming a part of the soil that once supported its structure.
