I was trying to write about my dinner, which was in the oven cooking, so I gave up on that but wrote this little poem about visiting the sweet shop (candy store) at school lunchtime. I realise that these are very British sweets so probably don't have US equivalents, but they're easily Googlable if your appetite is whetted :)<\/p>\n<p><H1>Gobsmacked<\/h1>\n<p>Down the road<br \/>\nat the end of a cul-de-sac,<br \/>\npast a ginger cat<br \/>\nthat glares at kids<br \/>\nas they pass.<\/p>\n<p>Up a little snicket<br \/>\nwith anaemic-looking paving slabs,<br \/>\nwalled on both sides<br \/>\nRoseville Road,<br \/>\nwith Roseville stores,<br \/>\na sweet little shop \u2014<br \/>\nan emporium no less.<\/p>\n<p>gobstoppers galore<br \/>\nbrown chewing nuts<br \/>\nmulticoloured midget gems<br \/>\norange pineapple cubes<br \/>\nstrawberry pink bon-bons<br \/>\nfizzy cola bottles<br \/>\ncandy cigarettes<br \/>\nsherbet lemons and sherbet pips<br \/>\npear drops<br \/>\ncough candy twists ...<\/p>\n<p>I never have to hold up the line,<br \/>\nI've known in my mind<br \/>\nall the way,  <br \/>\nall morning,<br \/>\nwhat quarter of sweets<br \/>\nI'll suck, <br \/>\nchew <br \/>\ncrunch<br \/>\nthrough the afternoon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I struggled with this hour&#8217;s prompt so have gone off prompt again.
