As if there<\/div>\n<div>were only one map, one world.<\/div>\n<div>But what would that poem be without<\/div>\n<div>Norway&#8217;s hare, running south in agitation?<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Just as I,\u00a0of limited poetic prowess, could not<\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1501946177798_17805\">imagine a map poem or a place poem<\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1501946177798_17804\">without that high road from Santa Fe to Taos,<\/div>\n<div id=\"yui_3_16_0_ym19_1_1501946177798_17803\">without the Little Manatee River, where I\u00a0almost<\/div>\n<div>drowned. As if there were only one map, one world.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>I don&#8217;t know if Bishop ever went to Norway, but she<\/div>\n<div>looked at a map of Europe long enough to see the<\/div>\n<div>bunny emerge, and I have looked at maps all my<\/div>\n<div>life, as if there were only one map, one world,<\/div>\n<div>waiting for you to return.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>At least two poets of some reknown have written poems called The Map, as if there were only one map, only one world.
