I went from being \u2018a delight to teach\u2019 in my first year of A-levels (age 17) to \u2018despite considerable absences\u2019 in the second year \u2014 most of the time I was playing the piano. Happy to report that I got an A in my English lang\/lit exams, and failed my grade 8 piano, go figure! ;)<\/p>\n<h1>The Ivory Tower<\/h1>\n<p>I was in love<br \/>\nwith a man<br \/>\nwho tinkled his last ivory<br \/>\nin eighteen forty nine.<\/p>\n<p>Waltzing through the afternoon,<br \/>\nmazurkaing in the morning<br \/>\ndefeated by the G minor Ballad<br \/>\nswooning to every nocturne.<\/p>\n<p>Duetting in Hedges' Hornpipe Rondo<br \/>\nrampant in Beethoven's Path\u00e9tique,<br \/>\nthe C minor opening salvo,<br \/>\nflirting with the delicate flows.<\/p>\n<p>Knocking out a Mozart Fantasy,<br \/>\ncavorting with Camilieri's Folkloristica,<br \/>\nrescuing Princess Natalie,<br \/>\nwho demanded I teach her to play.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I enjoyed my English classes at high school, but found the lure of the music rooms, all of which had pianos begging to be played, too great.
