{"id":34166,"date":"2017-08-05T13:20:43","date_gmt":"2017-08-05T17:20:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=34166"},"modified":"2017-08-05T19:20:34","modified_gmt":"2017-08-05T23:20:34","slug":"poem-5-place","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/poem-5-place\/","title":{"rendered":"Poem 5: Place"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Look, there, beyond the rolling hills,<br \/>\nround knuckles of emerald,<br \/>\npast the gentle slopes of grass.<br \/>\nIgnore the dark dirt beneath our feet,<br \/>\nor the chestnut dust mingling with mud.<br \/>\nDo not cry with the rain.<br \/>\nLook past the box buildings coated with grime<br \/>\nwith their flat roofs and wooden plank walls<br \/>\nand dusty, cracked glass windows.<br \/>\nStand on the broken swing dangling from the aged tree<br \/>\nwith its thick, tired branch bowing down,<br \/>\ngrab the frayed rope and stand on the cracked leather seat<br \/>\nand look up, out, and far.<br \/>\nLook beyond the cumulus clouds<br \/>\nto where the blue peeks out<br \/>\nover the slate mountains and their crystal snow caps<br \/>\nwhere the glaciers begin edging down<br \/>\nto sapphire lakes in plains of gold<br \/>\nthat melt to deserts of crimson and dunes of sand.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Look, there, beyond the rolling hills, round knuckles of emerald, past the gentle slopes of grass.
