{"id":36377,"date":"2017-08-05T17:03:19","date_gmt":"2017-08-05T21:03:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=36377"},"modified":"2017-08-05T17:03:19","modified_gmt":"2017-08-05T21:03:19","slug":"he-that-tries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/he-that-tries\/","title":{"rendered":"He, That Tries"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Wild men who caught and sang the sun in flight,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>And learn, too late, they grieved it on its way\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8211; Dylan Thomas, \u2018Do not go gentle into that good night\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We tend to ignore those who play it safe; the wild<br \/>\namong us celebrated for their daring, men<br \/>\nwho \u2018think outside the box\u2019 are those who<br \/>\nget the credit over the ones who truly caught<br \/>\nwhat it means to act, not just speak, and<br \/>\nthen went out to succeed; their praises not sang<br \/>\noften by anyone who is heard, anyone who knows the<br \/>\nwords to commemorate deeds, looking into the sun<br \/>\nand not being blinded by platitudes, or coming in<br \/>\nat the end only to seize all the credit before taking flight.<\/p>\n<p>To those we accord pompous accolades, and<br \/>\nthose who do what is needed, in the shadows we learn<br \/>\nthat effort is not fleeting, not unnoticed, be we too<br \/>\nmust curry the resolve to engage those who live, not late<br \/>\nin the effort, not after they are gone, not when they<br \/>\nare not around to grasp appreciation instead of grieved<br \/>\nremembrances; we need to let those we love know it;<br \/>\nselfishness is a paltry excuse for just moving on<br \/>\nacknowledgement over flattery, success is, by nature, its<br \/>\nown.
