{"id":36777,"date":"2017-08-05T17:32:08","date_gmt":"2017-08-05T21:32:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=36777"},"modified":"2017-08-05T19:28:08","modified_gmt":"2017-08-05T23:28:08","slug":"keeping-the-romance-alive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/keeping-the-romance-alive\/","title":{"rendered":"keeping the romance alive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>keeping the romance alive<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Passing you in the forest<\/p>\n<p>or in between delicate, wrought iron filigrees,<\/p>\n<p>I see you and immediately think on Whitman\u2019s noiseless, patient one;<\/p>\n<p>casting myself, too, to the Universe,<\/p>\n<p>hoping to catch some small connection to some soul\u2026<\/p>\n<p>lost or otherwise,<\/p>\n<p>so I can anchor myself somewhere<\/p>\n<p>after half a life time of floating on thermals<\/p>\n<p>when it\u2019s time to be elsewhere.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I envy your weavings and connections \u2013<\/p>\n<p>randomly purposeful,<\/p>\n<p>collected in unseen places to catch the nearest way<\/p>\n<p>for the juiciest bits.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Yet you still terrify me<\/p>\n<p>with your hairy, spindly legs<\/p>\n<p>and gross eyes;<\/p>\n<p>making me scream like a little girl<\/p>\n<p>if I find you in my bathtub<\/p>\n<p>\u2026no Whitman there &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>the romance is gone when I meet you out of context.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll endeavor to remember your romantic nature<\/p>\n<p>and the Whitman connection<\/p>\n<p>next time I stumble upon you in my shower.<\/p>\n<p>R.L.
