{"id":36886,"date":"2017-08-05T17:46:07","date_gmt":"2017-08-05T21:46:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=36886"},"modified":"2017-08-14T09:14:20","modified_gmt":"2017-08-14T13:14:20","slug":"charlotte-has-a-web","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/charlotte-has-a-web\/","title":{"rendered":"Charlotte Has A Web"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I think I&#8217;ll just stand here and watch this spider.<br \/>\nIt&#8217;s big and black and I hope not deadly to humans.<br \/>\nOne leg moves, then another, then several, together.<br \/>\nAt a snail&#8217;s pace it moves closer to the fly that thinks it&#8217;s having a safe rest.<\/p>\n<p>The cobweb is glistening in the sunlight, a shimmering drape hanging above the barn door.<\/p>\n<p>Nowhere else to be, I keep watching from the fold-out chair that my dad gave me.<br \/>\nHours later she&#8217;s there next to the fly.<\/p>\n<p>She grabs the fly.<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve named her Charlotte. The spider, not the fly.<br \/>\nThe fly doesn&#8217;t get a name since it&#8217;s just about to die anyway.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m standing up now, a front row seat to the feeding.<br \/>\nCharlotte eats his face, slowly, with purpose.<br \/>\nThe body is still, no struggle.<br \/>\nThe wings are still visible,<br \/>\nAnd if it still had its head it could fly away,<br \/>\nTo continue its buzzing and abused existence.<\/p>\n<p>But instead it&#8217;s wrapped up in thin, sparkling fibers,<br \/>\nQuite a pretty death.<\/p>\n<p>I wouldn&#8217;t mind taking a life like that-<br \/>\nPeacefully, slowly.<br \/>\nIt feels so right watching her delicately destroy the fly.<br \/>\nThere is a sense of order.<br \/>\nI suppose I can relate to Charlotte.<br \/>\nWe do share the same name.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I think I&#8217;ll just stand here and watch this spider.
