There’s a whole generation<\/p>\n
Of women, of a certain age,<\/p>\n
Who took the poem about<\/p>\n
Wearing purple when you’re old<\/p>\n
A little too seriously.<\/p>\n
The liberation of being able<\/p>\n
To dress in a less demure fashion<\/p>\n
Is muted, when every woman<\/p>\n
On the bus or in the doctor’s<\/p>\n
Wears purple pants or coats<\/p>\n
Or both. It’s so extreme at times<\/p>\n
That they’re difficult to distinguish;<\/p>\n
A sea of mauves and lilacs,<\/p>\n
Heady with talcum powder and Halls<\/p>\n
Bursts from the bus to the pavements.<\/p>\n
Any waiting grandchild might not<\/p>\n
find their Grammy in the purple waves.<\/p>\n
When I am old, I shall wear<\/p>\n
Whatever I please, which is,<\/p>\n
