{"id":37991,"date":"2017-08-05T19:36:08","date_gmt":"2017-08-05T23:36:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=37991"},"modified":"2017-08-05T19:52:24","modified_gmt":"2017-08-05T23:52:24","slug":"swallowtail-encounter-and-one-more","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/swallowtail-encounter-and-one-more\/","title":{"rendered":"Swallowtail Encounter and One more, Prompt 11"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Swallowtail Encounter<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As I drove along, I spot her<\/p>\n<p>Floating, yellow and black spotted<\/p>\n<p>wings spread apart,<\/p>\n<p>riding the soft breeze<\/p>\n<p>until she rests for a moment<\/p>\n<p>among roadside blooms.<\/p>\n<p>One moment, then frantic flitting<\/p>\n<p>from flower to flower<\/p>\n<p>wings pull and push air<\/p>\n<p>like a crewman&#8217;s race oars<\/p>\n<p>going upstream.<\/p>\n<p>I marvel at her energy<\/p>\n<p>as she collects and carries pollen<\/p>\n<p>beauty in her every moment.<\/p>\n<p>Brightening her corner of<\/p>\n<p>this asphalt country Carolina lane.<\/p>\n<p>I have pulled over to watch her.<\/p>\n<p>She continues her frolic, her<\/p>\n<p>feisty dance on her petal stage<\/p>\n<p>then, dipping her<\/p>\n<p>wings as if to salute me,<\/p>\n<p>takes off across the field<\/p>\n<p>searching for another<\/p>\n<p>batch of blooms.<\/p>\n<p>I drive on, smiling.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As soon as I heard the jig, I began to serach in my files for a poem I began and could never finish\u2014the music was the key to finishing ti\u2014so here it is\u2014if using parts of an older poem disqualifies this, then I also offer the short poem below<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Dancing from bloom to bloom<\/p>\n<p>Swallowtail offers her<\/p>\n<p>Yellow and black wings<\/p>\n<p>As contrast to the bright<\/p>\n<p>Blue cloudless sky<\/p>\n<p>And the array of \u00a0purple<\/p>\n<p>Mexican petunias.
