Planets whirled through space<\/p>\n
And life was scheduled around them.<\/p>\n
Predictable. Solemn.<\/p>\n
Minutes became hours,<\/p>\n
Hours became days,<\/p>\n
Days became years,<\/p>\n
Years became the measure of a life.<\/p>\n

Your little life is new, but soon<\/p>\n
your awareness will grow, and there will be<\/p>\n
No days or nights to mark time\u2019s passage.<\/p>\n
Memories will flow around you like a river<\/p>\n
And then be gone. No summoning<\/p>\n
Will bring them back to the now, because<\/p>\n
There is only now, and the past will not fit here.<\/p>\n
Only the elders will recall how it used to be.<\/p>\n
Soon we will all be gone.<\/p>\n

Time, the container of life itself, is gone.<\/p>\n
Your life like my own is mercurial,<\/p>\n
running in all directions at once.<\/p>\n
There is no past or future.<\/p>\n
There are no bounds to hold life in,<\/p>\n
To create order and meaning,<\/p>\n
To take your measure and name you<\/p>\n
Worthy or beyond hope.<\/p>\n
To let us rely on one another.<\/p>\n

I shelter you in my arms and sing,<\/p>\n
Emphasizing the rhythm, the steady beat.<\/p>\n
Once rhythm mattered. It marked time.<\/p>\n
Maybe you will understand. Time gave us rhythm.<\/p>\n
Let this beat enter your blood. Remember if you can.<\/p>\n
I had an age once, and it gave credentials.<\/p>\n
No longer. Sadly, you will only see what I become,<\/p>\n
And will never see what I used to be.<\/p>\n
Stay close, for soon will be my time to go.<\/p>\n
