Duty.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Consider the weirdo of Walden, Henry Thoreau,<\/p>\n<p>writing a friend about the death of his brother\u2014<\/p>\n<p>an inexplicable death\u2014<\/p>\n<p>small cut on the finger\u2014<\/p>\n<p>hadn\u2019t even hurt.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Perhaps<\/em> (he wrote) <em>we never assign<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>the sufficient cause for anything, <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>though it undoubtedly exists<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Which is why I hate jury duty.<\/p>\n<p>And why I loathe civil cases,<\/p>\n<p>teams formed to pair dollars<\/p>\n<p>with consequence deliriously ungraspable\u2014<\/p>\n<p><em>For want of a nail, <\/em>as the proverb goes,<em> kingdom lost<\/em>\u2014<\/p>\n<p>Some nail.<\/p>\n<p>Because everything\u2019s related, including me<\/p>\n<p>including the adversaries<\/p>\n<p>including you<\/p>\n<p>including the dead brother who remains dead<\/p>\n<p>and glittery causes swirl and eddy like galaxies barely fathomed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>(I think this is about 100, excluding the reps, but I got confused and gave up. )<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>12: from the Palace of Justice: &nbsp; Jury.
