{"id":39196,"date":"2017-08-05T21:52:20","date_gmt":"2017-08-06T01:52:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=39196"},"modified":"2017-08-05T21:52:20","modified_gmt":"2017-08-06T01:52:20","slug":"hour-thirteen-strange-new-world","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/hour-thirteen-strange-new-world\/","title":{"rendered":"Hour Thirteen Strange New World"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>13 2017 Strange New World<\/p>\n<p>Strange New World<br \/>\nby Paul Robert Sanford<\/p>\n<p>In the world of tomorrow<br \/>\nthe oceans became warmer by two degrees Celsius.<br \/>\nGlaciers melted, and rivers of water ran into the sea.<br \/>\nThe seas rose several inches,<br \/>\njust enough to cover some island nations<br \/>\nand flood the lowlands all over the world.<\/p>\n<p>But that wasn\u2019t the most dramatic problem.<br \/>\nThe warmer oceans gave off more water vapor<br \/>\ninto the air, where it traveled over the land and cooled,<br \/>\npouring down onto specific locations with unprecedented levels.<br \/>\nOne in a thousand year rainstorms began to flood new<br \/>\nareas that had never flooded before.<br \/>\nAfter the heavy rains, the air was depleted and there were droughts.<\/p>\n<p>Tropical storms became more powerful<br \/>\nbecause of the higher temperatures and the additional moisture,<br \/>\nand reached hurricane intensity more often,<br \/>\nwashing great waves over coastal cities,<br \/>\nchanging the coastline by washing soil and sand out to sea.<\/p>\n<p>Whole populations moved, but had nowhere to go.<br \/>\nThe amount of available fertile land shrank.<br \/>\nFamine killed millions, and disease that followed millions more.<\/p>\n<p>Governments changed.<br \/>\nToo frightened to face the reality of what was happening,<br \/>\npeople voted for whomever would give them some kind of false hope.<br \/>\nSoon a powerful minority banded together to demand proof-<br \/>\nproof the seas were rising, proof the temperature was rising,<br \/>\nbut more important, proof that something could be done about it.<\/p>\n<p>After all, they argued, the Creator God still held the earth in His hand,<br \/>\nand his unknown will controlled our destinies.<br \/>\nNothing mere humans could do would change the world one way or another,<br \/>\nbecause the promise was given with the rainbow that God would not again<br \/>\ndestroy the world by flood.<\/p>\n<p>And so, humanity, not God, wreaked a final judgment on themselves.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>13 2017 Strange New World Strange New World by Paul Robert Sanford In the world of tomorrow the oceans became warmer by two degrees Celsius.
