{"id":39680,"date":"2017-08-05T23:32:27","date_gmt":"2017-08-06T03:32:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=39680"},"modified":"2017-08-06T04:30:00","modified_gmt":"2017-08-06T08:30:00","slug":"hour-14-myth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/hour-14-myth\/","title":{"rendered":"Hour 15-Myth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>What is a myth?<\/p>\n<p>A story we tell our selves<\/p>\n<p>To give someone else the blame<\/p>\n<p>To hand them the control<\/p>\n<p>To beg them to save us<\/p>\n<p>Or venge us<\/p>\n<p>Or fix our broken soul<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>We wish we had the mighty powers<\/p>\n<p>Ruled from Olympus<\/p>\n<p>Or protected the oceans<\/p>\n<p>with a magic Trident<\/p>\n<p>We imagine ourselves as the hero<\/p>\n<p>in the belly of the whale<\/p>\n<p>Willing to sacrifice<\/p>\n<p>Everything so god would favor us<\/p>\n<p>Give us all we need and desire<\/p>\n<p>Because we remained faithful<\/p>\n<p>Because we are worthy<\/p>\n<p>Our myths feed our cynicism<\/p>\n<p>our bigotry<\/p>\n<p>Our self loathing<\/p>\n<p>Rescue us from death<\/p>\n<p>Somehow Jesus will save us<\/p>\n<p>Vishnu will rescue us<\/p>\n<p>Zeus will appease the volcano<\/p>\n<p>and we will be free<\/p>\n<p>We will load the animals on the ark<\/p>\n<p>We will wander the desert for forty days<\/p>\n<p>We will complete the tasks<\/p>\n<p>And we will be the favored one<\/p>\n<p>The Hero<\/p>\n<p>The great master<\/p>\n<p>God will call us to his side<\/p>\n<p>Grant us ever lasting harps and forty virgins<\/p>\n<p>But it&#8217;s just a story<\/p>\n<p>A myth<\/p>\n<p>A hero&#8217;s journey<\/p>\n<p>A lie<\/p>\n<p>Just a carrot we dangle<\/p>\n<p>To keep ourselves blameless<\/p>\n<p>Powerless and amused<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What is a myth?
