Rumor had it for a long while \u2013 perhaps even fifty years \u2013 you\u2019d be amazed at how stubborn Parisian gossip is \u2013 that you were his student. You, a woman \u2013 and him, the big shot male artist introducing you to the basics of Impressionism. As if you needed instructing or help in applying color. How wrong-headed!<\/p>\n<p>We both know you were already established \u2013 own galleries \/agents\/sales \u2013 when you met Edgar. Equals. Artistic kin. And yet, I\u2019m ashamed and embarrassed to read in your letter to your dealer, that dear Edgar not only found this painting \u201cgood\u201d but that he even \u201cadvised me on the background, <u>he even worked on the background.<\/u>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve since heard that Manet once took it upon himself to rework much of one of your friend Berthe\u2019s paintings.<\/p>\n<p>But who am I to judge what Edgar and you did.
