Summertime, and the rain\u2019s still coming down.
\nWe were kids and this was our summer vacation.
\nWe were supposed to be outside goofing off,
\nhaving some fun, but the rain came down for days.<\/p>\n
We made a plan to head to the park beside the lake,
\nand go for a swim rain or shine.
\nWe made peanut butter and honey sandwiches,
\nand crammed them, with our towels and <\/p>\n
swim suits, into brown paper bags, and
\nstarted out. It poured all the way there.
\nBy the time we hit the parking lot, our bags
\nwere soaked through, our lunches wrapped
\nin towels, also soaked. We were bickering.<\/p>\n
We dared each other to put on our suits.
\nWe put our suits on. <\/p>\n
We dared each other to run to the shore.
\nWe ran to the shore. <\/p>\n
We dared each other to step into the lake.
\nWe stepped into the lake. <\/p>\n
We were so easy.
\nWe were startled
\nto find the water warm.
