I cannot sleep<\/div>\n
for thinking of you<\/div>\n
in the airport<\/div>\n
waiting for me<\/div>\n
like old times.<\/div>\n
You wanted to see me<\/div>\n
again and again<\/div>\n
as if there were still<\/div>\n
something between us<\/div>\n
something you couldn’t<\/div>\n
quite remember but you<\/div>\n
knew it was significant.<\/div>\n
I cannot sleep after seeing<\/div>\n
yet another news report<\/div>\n
of a man with Alzheimer’s<\/div>\n
missing for more than a week<\/div>\n
trying to go home to where<\/div>\n
he used to live in Illinois.<\/div>\n
He’s been in the news every<\/div>\n
day, his family more frantic.<\/div>\n
And news of a crash on I-95,<\/div>\n
someone going north in<\/div>\n
southbound lanes, one dead, 21,<\/div>\n
another hospitalized, 29, but the<\/div>\n
driver who crossed the median<\/div>\n
walked away. I know you would not<\/div>\n
want this, any more than you could<\/div>\n
stand to see the apartment buildings<\/div>\n
burning in London or Honolulu, any<\/div>\n
more than you would want our own<\/div>\n
oven burning from the plastic-handled<\/div>\n
knife misplaced there before you left.<\/div>\n
I want to keep you with me, stay with<\/div>\n
you, not in any cloying way, but you<\/div>\n
have decided I will not be your nurse.<\/div>\n
You will come and eat breakfast with me,<\/div>\n
go to dinner, galleries and museums. But<\/div>\n
there will be no more tucking in at night,<\/div>\n
no watching over you. Until you are stopped<\/div>\n
cold by the brick wall, by gator or grizzly,<\/div>\n
