{"id":40928,"date":"2017-08-06T02:36:33","date_gmt":"2017-08-06T06:36:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=40928"},"modified":"2017-08-06T02:38:39","modified_gmt":"2017-08-06T06:38:39","slug":"table-for-two-hour-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/table-for-two-hour-18\/","title":{"rendered":"Table for Two (Hour 18)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The oak grain deepens by candlelight<br \/>\nin a corner of the bustling room.<br \/>\nBeneath undisturbed dinnerware,<br \/>\nthe place settings set upon<br \/>\na vacant table for two.<\/p>\n<p>In the middle of an insignificant month,<br \/>\non some random, middle day of the week,<br \/>\ntables sit people conversing about their meals,<br \/>\nbut at the table for two,<br \/>\nthere is no one who eats. <\/p>\n<p>There is no apparent significance of today\u2019s date,<br \/>\nAnd the table for two sits alone in view of the on looking balcony. <\/p>\n<p>As customers leave the evening grows late,<br \/>\nThere is no one who comes, and yet the table for two still looks inviting.<\/p>\n<p>A table for two, a reservation was held,<br \/>\nBut what unforeseen circumstance<br \/>\nHas delayed these anonymous guests?<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps there is a name on a list somewhere<br \/>\nWith a number to reach the party involved.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps there is a babysitter who canceled at the last minute,<br \/>\nAnd now a young mother and father are tending to sleepy children.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps there is couple arguing in the parking lot outside,<br \/>\nHaving never left the car since they arrived,<br \/>\nNeither ready to surrender or come step inside. <\/p>\n<p>Perhaps there is a car stalled on the overpass, broken glass,<br \/>\nwith unconscious passengers running late for their dinner plans.<\/p>\n<p>Never the less their seats wait,<br \/>\nto celebrate a moment that won\u2019t come,<br \/>\nTo be served meals that have grown cold<br \/>\nBy candlelight cast askew,<br \/>\nFor no one is coming to claim their seats,<br \/>\nat this vacant table for two.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The oak grain deepens by candlelight in a corner of the bustling room.
