{"id":41084,"date":"2017-08-06T03:25:47","date_gmt":"2017-08-06T07:25:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=41084"},"modified":"2017-08-06T03:25:47","modified_gmt":"2017-08-06T07:25:47","slug":"the-eye-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/the-eye-2\/","title":{"rendered":"The Eye"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She looked at the eye<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of the universe <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">so very close <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">that she hardly<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">blinked <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">for fear of<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">missing out <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">on its secrets. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But then, of course,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">she had to blink, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">as humans have the need to do so. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And when she did<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">moisten her scleras, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">the universe responded.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It blinked back at her. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">As she leaned closer<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">to get a better look<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">at what had just happened or <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">what she thought had happened, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">she realized something.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She blinked. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The universe blinked. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">What she thought she was observing <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">was actually observing her, too. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">That&#8217;s when a small bunch <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of the lush, long eyelashes<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">in the eye of the universe <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">began to pull themselves away from the lid, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">away from the others. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But as she peered closer, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">she saw that the moving bunch of eyelashes <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">were not eyelashes at all.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Rather, they were eight nimble legs<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">of a spider <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">stirring as it awakened from its nap. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How long had the spider been there? <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">How long was her nap? <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Had the blinking disturbed this spider&#8217;s slumber? <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The spider pulled herself up<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">in her gossamer spidery elegance <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">and began to walk <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">out of the rainbow projecting eye of the universe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She did so without ever blinking or looking back. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The eye of the universe and the girl blinked simultaneously <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">as the spider climbed out into the starry night sky.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She would never know her grace had been observed, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">she was indeed undisturbed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mary Gabis<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>She looked at the eye of the universe so very close that she hardly blinked for fear of missing out on its secrets.
