My only wish is<\/p>\n<p>let it be an instant, painless going away.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But my mettle was tested 2 days ago.<\/p>\n<p>Going down from 18th floor of our building,<\/p>\n<p>I noticed that the lift was acting strange.<\/p>\n<p>True to form, a fast and sudden jolt downward and stopped abruptly<\/p>\n<p>No indication on what floor, no sound nor motion, nothing.<\/p>\n<p>I pressed the emergency button.<\/p>\n<p>An alarm sounded but another heavy jolt<\/p>\n<p>and downward motion followed again.<\/p>\n<p>My composure was shaken with every jolt<\/p>\n<p>and downward motion, of course.<\/p>\n<p>Is this my end?<\/p>\n<p>Although it&#8217;s instant (whew!) and painless (?),<\/p>\n<p>I come to thinking that slow death is not my cup of tea too.<\/p>\n<p>I again pressed the red button and another alarm sounded<\/p>\n<p>but no help came and another jolt<\/p>\n<p>and the lift stopped at the 5th floor and opened its door.<\/p>\n<p>I immediately got out of the lift, dashed for the stairs,<\/p>\n<p>and now the alarm is on.<\/p>\n<p>This, I think, is His way of telling me &#8211;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;You&#8217;re full of yourself, here&#8217;s for your high talks&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>All my bravado went down the drain<\/p>\n<p>Proceeded to the stairs, a welcome sight!<\/p>\n<p>Slowly, one step at a time (shaking), reached my floor, 2nd<\/p>\n<p>Humbly, I declared that I am not ready as I claimed<\/p>\n<p>I was a scaredy-cat, my knees shook and turned to jelly<\/p>\n<p>Sat down on the steps and heaved a sigh of relief.<\/p>\n<p>So, still humble and boast-less, mumbled a prayer<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Lord, let Your will be done.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I thought I was ready On Death, my ready quip if ever a question was posed on me: &#8220;I am ready, anytime, anywhere.
