{"id":42009,"date":"2017-08-06T05:40:22","date_gmt":"2017-08-06T09:40:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=42009"},"modified":"2017-08-06T05:40:22","modified_gmt":"2017-08-06T09:40:22","slug":"42009","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/42009\/","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Everyday, at 6 a.m. she leaves her house from her warm bed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She sets up a stand outside the metro<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Selling little items you might need on the go.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Chewing gum, chocolate bars, newspapers too,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">But one other item you need but never knew.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She uncovers the box from the plastic shield,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Inside are fried treats, the kind a true baker might yield.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">She takes out the powdered sugar, as white as can be<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And sprinkles it atop in rounds two, maybe three.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Why she caught my eye, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">It\u2019s a funny reason why.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Her hair is bright red and curly,<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Visibly seen at a time of day so early.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The color matches the treats before she powders them sweet<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And I think to myself, \u201cIs her red color masking the years that earned white underneath?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mary Gabis<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Everyday, at 6 a.m. she leaves her house from her warm bed.
