At the twenty-first hour of consciousness,
\nWhen my cortex has been
\nSliced,
\nLightly battered,
\nDeep-fried,
\nAnd garnished with lime,
\nA spider crawls into my ear.
\nIt travels up the aural canal,
\nGets to the ear drum and says,
\n“Hey,
\nI want to go further.
\nI’m trying to get to the calamari,
\nExcuse me.”
\nAnd, of course, the ear drum says nothing.
\n“Fine,” the spider says. “I’ll find another way.”
\nSo, it exits the ear, crosses my forehead,
\n(grumbling all the way)
\nAnd enters the opposite one.
\n“Haha,” it says. “That’s what I’m talking about.”
\nBut of course, it encounters the opposite ear drum.
