{"id":42294,"date":"2017-08-06T06:40:36","date_gmt":"2017-08-06T10:40:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=42294"},"modified":"2017-08-06T06:50:15","modified_gmt":"2017-08-06T10:50:15","slug":"hour-22-lady-in-black-ekphrastic-poem","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/hour-22-lady-in-black-ekphrastic-poem\/","title":{"rendered":"Hour 22  Lady in Black Ekphrastic poem"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>22 2017 Ekphrastic poem<\/p>\n<p>Lady in Black<br \/>\nby Paul Robert Sanford<\/p>\n<p>Style and elegance trump comfort in her pose<br \/>\nhead turned sharply to the side to show her chiseled profile.<br \/>\nWasp waisted from wearing iron corsets<br \/>\nwhich over time move the woman&#8217;s internal organs permanently.<br \/>\nWith an impact on childbirth unknown to me.<\/p>\n<p>One hand tightly and uncomfortably grips the table<br \/>\nto support the pose.<\/p>\n<p>Note that she is thoroughly draped<br \/>\nbut her fine white shoulders are exposed and the bodice dips across her bosom.<\/p>\n<p>Although the pose seems elegant, the upper body is curiously detached from the lower,<br \/>\ngiving a stiff rigid feel to the pose,<br \/>\nalmost as though the flesh had been painted separately and the fabric lower parts filled in later<br \/>\nwith all their shiny and elaborate folds and shadings.<\/p>\n<p>Look closely at the unnatural pose of the right arm compared to the staight and unstraibned left.<br \/>\nThe head is also turned in a way that might easily be uncomfortable, but elegance demands the pose.<br \/>\nThe hair, piled on top of the head, is represented by the painter in a more haphazard manner<br \/>\nthan the detailed shadings of the fabric, once again giving the feeling that we have<br \/>\ntwo paintings, possibly even by two different artists.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>22 2017 Ekphrastic poem Lady in Black by Paul Robert Sanford Style and elegance trump comfort in her pose head turned sharply to the side to show her chiseled profile.
