{"id":42543,"date":"2017-08-06T07:34:32","date_gmt":"2017-08-06T11:34:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=42543"},"modified":"2017-08-07T03:15:49","modified_gmt":"2017-08-07T07:15:49","slug":"emmit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2017\/08\/emmit\/","title":{"rendered":"Emmit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I didn&#8217;t get to say goodbye.<br \/>\nNot officially anyway.<br \/>\nI was stuck in a whole other city,<br \/>\nWhile you and Daryl sat alone in the waiting room.<br \/>\nBut my heart shattered when I heard the news.<br \/>\nI knew that your time here was winding down,<br \/>\nI couldn&#8217;t see or think of you without beimg reminded of that.<br \/>\nBut there&#8217;s a huge difference between knowing somerhint is going to happen, and actually having it happen.<br \/>\nYour body was refusing to work, but I still had the selfish thought to keep you around for just a couple more days, just so I could see you again.<br \/>\nI couldn&#8217;t help it.<br \/>\nI didn&#8217;t want to let you go.<br \/>\nBut I pushed away that selfish thought,<br \/>\nBecause I knew that it was best for you.<br \/>\nYou lived long enough for your body to start falling apart on you,<br \/>\nBut I have to think that it was worth it.<br \/>\nAll the times I saw that little pig tail of yours wiggle,<br \/>\nOr heard you fake-grumble when I cuddled you.<br \/>\nEach time you did the ear-dance after a bath,<br \/>\nOr chased birds.<br \/>\nWith all of that, I have to believe you enjoyed your time here on earth,<br \/>\nAnd your time here with us.<br \/>\nI know that I enjoyed every last moment of your company and presence.<br \/>\nAnd I know that when you left,<br \/>\nYou took a piece of my heart with you.<br \/>\nI don&#8217;t care about never getting it back.<br \/>\nI don&#8217;t want it.&#8221;<br \/>\nI can be happy with my broken heart<br \/>\nBecause the missing piece is with you.<br \/>\nAnd I know you&#8217;ll keep it with you always.<br \/>\nI love you Emmit.
