So much changed this year –<\/p>\n

My horizons were rearranged<\/p>\n

When the fancy new build<\/p>\n

Drew curtains across my field of vision<\/p>\n

And the old lifeboat station was taken away<\/p>\n

Bit by bit,<\/p>\n

Day by day,<\/p>\n

I can still just about see the ocean,<\/p>\n

Pretentiously adorned with several boats on<\/p>\n

Like costume jewellery<\/p>\n

To gild the lily quite unduly.<\/p>\n

The benches punctuate the sea wall<\/p>\n

To commemorate\u00a0Sids and Normans\u00a0and Arthurs,<\/p>\n

People’s brothers and best friends and fathers.<\/p>\n

The old lobster pots on the corner mark a chapter break,<\/p>\n

But there’s a notice to say somebody will soon take<\/p>\n

Those away too<\/p>\n

Unless someone raises an objection<\/p>\n

With a valid interception.<\/p>\n

The pages\u00a0stacked against\u00a0the sea soon<\/p>\n

Will be all blank<\/p>\n

With nothing left to tell a story<\/p>\n

Or to\u00a0really interest me<\/p>\n

To be frank,<\/p>\n

And that eight mile stretch<\/p>\n

To somewhere different<\/p>\n

Has me instantly a kvetch –<\/p>\n

Oh to be o isolated is such a wretch,<\/p>\n

Whatever was I thinking?<\/p>\n

It’s enough to set anyone off drinking<\/p>\n

Until, inevitably, I am lured back<\/p>\n

By another claret sunset<\/p>\n

Most magnificent .<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Then<\/em> I’m once again madly intoxicated<\/p>\n

By this little scene, which only\u00a0three hours ago, I hated.<\/p>\n
