Not family nor even friends,<\/p>\n
But only the many delights<\/p>\n
Of the local cuisine back home.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
From sock-filtered \u2018Nanyang\u2019 coffee roasted in margarine,<\/p>\n
To the carefully produced nine-layered \u2018Kuih Lapis\u2019 cake,<\/p>\n
And succulent chicken rice that\u2019s pressure-cooked to perfection,<\/p>\n
To the humble carrot (turnip) cake well fried in lard and black soy sauce.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
All this I miss, and much more.<\/p>\n
A glutton am I, no less,<\/p>\n
The pangs of my hunger cannot be satiated,<\/p>\n
Oh, that I would be able to partake of them once again!<\/p>\n
