O&#8217;Conner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Greetings and Salutations! I have again signed up for the insanity that is\u00a0<em>The Poetry Marathon\u00a0<\/em>(okay, half the insanity, since I\u2019m planning to do the 12-hour version again\u2014because sleep); this is my introduction.<br \/>\n<span id=\"more-30309\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Among my various roles and attributes, I am:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a self-published poet. I am up to twelve published collections of poetry now. My latest, <em>Wishes sometimes have consequences<\/em>, covers the chapter of accidents that was 2018. I continue to write every day, posting the best (or least horrible) of each day\u2019s poems on my blog, <a href=\"https:\/\/ordinaryaveragethoughts.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Ordinary Average Thoughts<\/em><\/a>.<em>\u00a0<\/em>And I still participate in several open mics in the Seattle area, though the trials of the last year and a half have caused my attendance to be more sporadic than I would like.<\/li>\n<li>a freelance copy editor. This is how I make most of the money I don\u2019t have. Fortunately, I have a background as a translator, because many\u00a0of the documents I edit originate countries where English is not the primary language\u00a0(e.g., Ethiopia, Malawi, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Ukraine).<\/li>\n<li>a graphic designer. I can\u2019t really say I\u2019m a professional anymore (if I ever was\u2014there isn\u2019t much available for designers who aren\u2019t focused on web\/mobile\/UI\/UX design), but I have designed lots of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.behance.net\/gallery\/2589533\/Posters-(20092011)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">posters<\/a>, done some\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.behance.net\/gallery\/4506417\/Publication-Design\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">magazine work<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tintymusic.bandcamp.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">album covers<\/a>, and (shameless self-promotion alert!) do book and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.behance.net\/gallery\/27731439\/Book-Cover-Design\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cover<\/a>\u00a0design. (Needless to say, I do all my own book design.)<\/li>\n<li>a sort of artist. I have backed off of photography in favor of digital sketches\/paintings, which I started doing late last year after I inherited my father\u2019s iPad. You can see some of my work <a href=\"https:\/\/www.behance.net\/gallery\/74651899\/iPad-paintings-and-sketches\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I still live near Seattle, but am now sans felines. My mom keeps urging me to get a new cat right away, but I\u2019m not there yet.
