Oily sludge
\nDrips from war machinery
\nLubricated by blood-seasoned crude<\/p>\n

We watch it on our TV
\nIn air-conditioned misery
\nWonder if there’s anything we can really do<\/p>\n

In a world where fame supercedes the art that makes us famous
\nWhere image misportrays the essence of who we really are
\nWhere everyone’s not good enough
\nJust getting by is so damn tough
\nBut we’re all just this close to being stars<\/p>\n

Update Instagram to the rhythm of the war drums
\nDrone strike videos suggested on YouTube
\nIs this what we’ve become?
\nConstant passive viewing of atrocities make us numb<\/p>\n

But not dumb<\/p>\n

Overeducated, overworked and underpaid
\nToo informed to be anything but jaded
\nWe bow to the gods of profit-driven resource extraction
\nAnd wonder why America is synonymous with hatred<\/p>\n

Gears grind, dripping tears of Afghani mothers
\nOf Iraqi children
\nOf Syrian refugees
\nOf a world under threat from those who view their fellow man as others<\/p>\n

Lubricated by petroleum
\nHabituated to violence
\nInundated by conflict, chaos and distraction<\/p>\n

So many distractions<\/p>\n

The only sane reaction is to isolate
\nBut that level of alienation McKenna spoke of is unattainable with the drones above<\/p>\n
