The red-bellied woodpecker flies over the windshield<\/p>\n
We almost collide.<\/p>\n
In another world, we do, but there is only wings<\/p>\n
now stretching from my shoulders<\/p>\n
as my silver hair reddens\u00a0\u00a0and the air lifts it like feathers<\/p>\n
Only wings, a hunger for so many decades<\/p>\n
for so many earthbound<\/p>\n
The wheels continue down the road<\/p>\n
You do not notice I am gone<\/p>\n
a tethered bird left behind<\/p>\n
while I climb the wind into the clouds<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Beside you, the bird that wears my face<\/p>\n
is still, only her head turning from side to side<\/p>\n
