Spider Widow<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
How often I told you things<\/p>\n
All the time a running conversation<\/p>\n
Out loud even when apart<\/p>\n
We talked for twenty years, always<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
When the dog died we mourned<\/p>\n
For she was our stream of consciousness<\/p>\n
Wondering what she was doing and<\/p>\n
Thinking of us, our dear mother<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Then you died months later<\/p>\n
Leaving me without a living creature<\/p>\n
To volley my thoughts and observations<\/p>\n
Creating a sudden halt to my being<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
There was no one to care the blue house<\/p>\n
Had been painted green or sold or still there<\/p>\n
That the neighbor’s cat visited our yard<\/p>\n
While the crows watched from the maple<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
I have taken to sharing with window spiders<\/p>\n
Who care little of my opinions<\/p>\n
But keep their distance while I explain<\/p>\n
The Universe as I see it<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Tolerating my tearful moments<\/p>\n
We have established a useful truce and<\/p>\n
I must admit I appreciate the company<\/p>\n
Their wisdom to allow me the stage<\/p>\n
