The small brown bear is, as on most days<\/strong><\/p>\n

Left lying flat and haphazardly on the bed<\/strong><\/p>\n

Inanimate and not even propped up straight<\/strong><\/p>\n

To get a good look out the window<\/strong><\/p>\n

He is old, and worn<\/strong><\/p>\n

The pads on his feet all but gone<\/strong><\/p>\n

Someone promises to repair them but never does<\/strong><\/p>\n

And probably never will<\/strong><\/p>\n

But once the house is quiet<\/strong><\/p>\n

And he is left alone<\/strong><\/p>\n

He comes to life, gets up<\/strong><\/p>\n

And dusts himself off<\/strong><\/p>\n

Because at some point the night before<\/strong><\/p>\n

He had ended up on the floor<\/strong><\/p>\n

Stretches his arms out<\/strong><\/p>\n

Perhaps even exercises<\/strong><\/p>\n

Then\u2014oh then he takes flight<\/strong><\/p>\n

And around and around the world he speeds<\/strong><\/p>\n

Supersonic and unstoppable<\/strong><\/p>\n

Fighting crime and protecting us all<\/strong><\/p>\n

He is a superhero<\/strong><\/p>\n

A bear without equal<\/strong><\/p>\n

A bear beyond compare<\/strong><\/p>\n

As the legend goes<\/strong><\/p>\n

They rally and cheer and chant<\/strong><\/p>\n

And praise his bravery<\/strong><\/p>\n

No one tosses him onto a chair<\/strong><\/p>\n

When the bed has to be made<\/strong><\/p>\n

Or stuffs him in a suitcase<\/strong><\/p>\n

A hero smashed head first into darkness<\/strong><\/p>\n

Until he is released<\/strong><\/p>\n

Only to be thrown on unknown beds and floors<\/strong><\/p>\n

My bear lives this secret life<\/strong><\/p>\n

Far from me and my ability to see<\/strong><\/p>\n

The illusion right in front of me<\/strong><\/p>\n

I come home, and hug him<\/strong><\/p>\n
