Inside I alone am awake
\nSilence is deafening until the computer suddenly hums
\nAn enormous fan nearly drowning all else out.
\nDespite its noise I hear so much more<\/p>\n
Outside are birds, finches, swallows and crows
\nPerhaps a raven an occasional duck
\nBut only rarely, and only with luck.<\/p>\n
Inside are snores from at least two sources
\nFirst comes my husband’s which sound like several horses
\nThen there is Hank, fuzzy and fat, snoring far louder than your average cat.<\/p>\n
The computer fan whizzes, its heat on my lap, the couch is warm too
\nThe light is bright with the promise of dawn, and daylight shines through
\nthat open screen door providing a lackluster view
\nOf another building.<\/p>\n
It’s Wonderful to be here, alone in this quiet.
\nToo early to leave, and I wouldn’t abide it.<\/p>\n
