{"id":48350,"date":"2019-06-22T12:20:28","date_gmt":"2019-06-22T16:20:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=48350"},"modified":"2019-06-22T12:20:28","modified_gmt":"2019-06-22T16:20:28","slug":"alone-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2019\/06\/alone-4\/","title":{"rendered":"Alone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I hated the sea, its vastness, and uncertainty.<\/p>\n<p>Thrown on a boat, tethered to the helm.<\/p>\n<p>Murky brown waters fade to clear blue as the sun beats down on me, all around me.<\/p>\n<p>Blinding heat chokes me as salt permeates my skull.<\/p>\n<p>I yearn for blissful shade, a gust, a breeze.<\/p>\n<p>Thirst falls upon me, my mouth unable to form words.<\/p>\n<p>I cannot scream for help.<\/p>\n<p>No longer do I care about how alone I am on this vessel.<\/p>\n<p>The time has come for me to survive.<\/p>\n<p>My teeth saw my hands free from the ropes, it takes hours.<\/p>\n<p>Struggling to keep my balance I peer over the side of the ship, the depth is dizzying.<\/p>\n<p>Panic sets in.<\/p>\n<p>I am alone.<\/p>\n<p>The engine rolls over every time I try to start it, I am dead in the water.<\/p>\n<p>So I allow myself to float.<\/p>\n<p>Staring at the clouds as I lay on my back trying to remain calm.<\/p>\n<p>Time passes.<\/p>\n<p>I reflect back on my life before The Boat.<\/p>\n<p>Kick my self over all the time I took for granted.<\/p>\n<p>Nausea, exhaustion.<\/p>\n<p>At some point, I lull off into a warm sleep.<\/p>\n<p>Visions of cold water and comfort fill my head.<\/p>\n<p>I wake.<\/p>\n<p>I cry.<\/p>\n<p>Night comes and the sky explodes.<\/p>\n<p>I never realized how terrifyingly microscopic I am in this universe.<\/p>\n<p>Millions of stars guide me through the night, singing lullabies.<\/p>\n<p>The water becomes still in an almost malicious way.<\/p>\n<p>Dawn begins to break and I&#8217;m carving words into the planks on the floorboard.<\/p>\n<p>And then a bump.<\/p>\n<p><em>Land.<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I hated the sea, its vastness, and uncertainty.
