{"id":48398,"date":"2019-06-22T12:20:35","date_gmt":"2019-06-22T16:20:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/?p=48398"},"modified":"2019-06-24T18:07:47","modified_gmt":"2019-06-24T22:07:47","slug":"blinders","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thepoetrymarathon.com\/blog\/2019\/06\/blinders\/","title":{"rendered":"Blinders"},"content":{"rendered":"<pre>Blinders on\r\nso we don\u2019t see\r\nthe harm that\u2019s done,\r\nthe travesty\r\nof children caged\r\nin a foreign land\r\nso afraid and alone\r\nthough their cages are crammed\r\nwith others who sought\r\na better life\r\nand wound up here\r\nno hope in sight.\r\n\r\nBut it\u2019s hard to look\r\nand harder still to see\r\nso we have blinders on\r\nin this \u201cland of the free.\u201d\r\nWe are far from brave.\r\nBut those kids sure are\r\nwhile we look away\r\ntheir young lives are scarred.\r\n\r\nOr we look fleetingly,\r\nthen wring our hands\r\nand offer some logic\r\nabout foreign lands\r\nand rules of law\r\nor scarce resource\r\nor how there must be consequence\r\nof course -\r\nfor breaking the law\r\nin the USA.\r\nThis country\u2019s ours\r\nnot theirs we say.\r\n\r\nWhen these children cry,\r\nwe look away.<\/pre>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Blinders on so we don\u2019t see the harm that\u2019s done, the travesty of children caged in a foreign land so afraid and alone though their cages are crammed with others who sought a better life and wound up here no hope in sight.
